Principals play musical chairs

Dallas High principal moves to Lyle Elementary

DALLAS -- Dallas School District has shuffled its administrators' jobs, cutting one position and adding teaching duties to another.

Christy Perry, currently the principal at Lyle elementary, will move to the district office, where she'll become the district's first personnel director.

Saving money in the face of a severe state budget shortfall and creating the personnel director position were the two reasons for the administrative changes, Superintendent Dave Novotney said.

"In a district this size, we really need a personnel director," Novotney said.

Scott McLeod, the current principal at Dallas High, will take over Perry's spot at Lyle.

"I think he wanted to finish his career in education at the elementary level," Novotney said.

Assistant Principal Keith Ussery will become principal at Dallas High. The district is advertising for applicants to take over his job.

Don Wildfang, the principal at Morrison Alternative School, will take on teaching duties in addition to his jobs as principal and director of Transportation and Support Services.

"He will become a teaching principal," Novotney said. "He'll be in the classroom from 9 to 1:30 each day."

High School athletic director Grant Boustead will become district athletic director, making him responsible for athletics at LaCreole Middle School as well.

Mel Grimes, an alternative education teacher at LaCreole who also handles middle school athletics, is on the list of possible cuts. However, Novotney said, the final decision is up to the board and budget committee members.

Whitworth Elementary Principal Lynn Hurt will stay at Whitworth but will become principal of Rickreall Elementary as well.

The only other change is that a career coordinator position will become a classified instead of a certified position. The new career coordinator will also be responsible for developing ways to implement the Certificate of Advanced Mastery program.

All other district administrators' jobs will stay the same, though they'll all be taking on additional responsibilities.
